All ClosetMaid shelving is constructed with zinc coated steel.

What are ClosetMaid laminate/wood products made of?

Most of our products are made from a combination of Engineered Woods—a mixture of high quality, hard and soft wood materials which generally come from the surplus of the original lumber processing. Commonly referred to as MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and Composite Wood, these materials are wood fibers bonded together with a synthetic resin in a process that combines high heat and pressure to make a very stable, environmentally friendly product. The result is dense, strong panels of fiberboard and/or particleboard (composite wood) which are then laminated with durable, attractive finishes. These materials are then further manufactured into furniture components in a precision, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Components are inspected and packaged with high quality, European hardware that has been designed to make home assembly quick and easy.

Assembly Troubleshooting

Can corner unit kits be used with the ShelfTrack system?

No, corner shelves will not work with ShelfTrack. The corner shelf kits are only intended for standard installations of Shelf and Rod or SuperSlide shelving.

My shelving is coming out of the back wall clips. How do I keep my shelving from falling?

First, ensure all installation specifications have been met. You can review the installation instructions for your mounting system in Install Instructions. If the shelves are properly installed, you may want to try installing down clips. If this method does not work, we suggest using metal shelf clips which must be installed into the studs.

How can I remove clips/anchors that hold the wire shelves to the wall?

To remove clips from a wall, use a flat head screwdriver to pry out the pins. Then use pliers to pull them out. You can use the same method to remove plastic anchors from the wall.

Is there a shelf smaller than the 12" deep for the ShelfTrack system?

We do not have 9" deep shelves available for the ShelfTrack system. Our 9" deep shelves require standard installation using wall clips and brackets.

Can the Runner frame set baskets be stacked?

Yes. However, we do not recommend stacking more than two units on top of each other. Put the top basket runner set completely together first. Follow the same installation instructions for the bottom basket runner, except do not assemble the top cross bars and L connectors. This will enable you to stack the top unit on the bottom unit.

How can I be sure the cams are locked properly?

Before inserting the camposts into the camlock, make sure that the arrow on both camposts is pointing towards the drawer front. Then, insert both right and left campost into camlock. Secure campost into camlock using a screw driver by turning the camlock clockwise, to at least a 360- degree turn.

Can I add wheels to my unit?

We do not recommend adding wheels unless specified as an add-on option or included with your product. Modifying a product can void the products warranty and may cause a potential safety hazard.

Why doesn’t the backer match the color of my unit?

The backer may be folded in half or you may require a replacement backer in the appropriate color. To request a replacement, please contact our Customer Service team at 800-874-0008.

How far down on the wall does the support bracket come?

The bracket will be approximately 13" from top of wall clip to bottom of bracket. From the pin in the wall to the pin in the support it is approximately 12 1/4". Review your instruction sheets or go to the Install section of this website and browse through How To Guides.

Can I adjust the gap in between my storage unit doors?

Yes. The doors may be adjusted for most units.

Can I customize my laminate products?

Our products allow you to custom design your storage area. We do not recommend that you customize the actual product or deviate from the instructions included with each product.

Can the laminate products be moved or disassembled?

Yes. Two people may be required to lift and carry a unit to its new location. It is very important to never drag or scoot the furniture (especially on carpet). Dissembling the product is also possible, but it may damage the unit in the process.

Can a support pole be used with Total Slide?

Yes, a support pole can be used. It should be installed through the shelf behind the second rod.

The supports will not hold, and I have the deck wire between the slots. What can I do?
